Clear Sky Chart FAQ

Can I get a chart if I'm outside of North America?

No.

However, there is the 7Timer web site.

They're not clear sky charts. They don't forecast for point locations, they have 3 hour resolution instead of 1 hour, have lower spatial resolution and do not use data from the high-accuracy astronomy-specific forecast model that I use for the clear sky charts.

However, the 7Timer website is inspired by the clear sky charts and has forecasts of cloud cover, transparency and seeing specifically designed for astronomers. Best of all, they cover Europe, Asia, Austrailia and South America -- i.e. places where there are no clear sky charts.

Although not as accurate as the Canadian Meterological Centre forecasts used by the charts, 7timer may still give better forecasts for the purposes of astronomical observation than mundane weather forecasts.

Amateur astronomer Quanzhi Ye hosts the 7Timer from China.
